The Rotorua Boys' High School old boy is now back in New Zealand playing in the ASB Premiership, the top amateur league in New Zealand.
After more than 100 caps for Auckland City FC, McGeorge decided to move to Team Wellington to further his chances of playing at the highest level.
"I've moved down to Wellington to play football here," he said.
"I'm pretty much just trying to get back in front of Ricki [Herbert]. I want to try and break into the next stage of World Cup qualification with the All Whites."
McGeorge, 23, said he had the opportunity to train with the Wellington Phoenix development team but passed the opportunity up until the end of the ASB Premiership season.
"The idea was I was going to train with the Phoenix but I decided against it because I didn't want to overload my body."
He said despite that he had frustratingly injured his hamstring earlier this month playing for Team Wellington, but will return to full fitness in the new year.
McGeorge said 2013 was an exciting year ahead, and he had the option of returning to Aldershot Town in July if he wished to trial again.
"At the moment my focus is just get my body right and then we will see what happens."
McGeorge will spend Christmas with family in Rotorua before travelling to Coromandel for New Year.
