Rugby: Bay team unleash their wrath on rivals

After thrashing them in pool play, the Bay ran in 17 tries to again trounce the Valley team 101-0 in the playoff for fifth position. The Bay of Plenty Roller Mills side has finished the annual primary schools rugby tournament in a disappointing fifth place.

It was not the position the Bay of Plenty side would have gone into the competition aiming for but two crucial losses in pool play ended the defending champions' aspirations.

Thames Valley suffered the full wrath of the Bay of Plenty side when they played them in their final game on Saturday.

After thrashing them in pool play, the Bay ran in 17 tries to again trounce the Valley team 101-0 in the playoff for fifth position.

The coaching staff acknowledged they had left their run too late.

The Bay side did not leave Auckland empty-handed as they were awarded the Spraggon Cup as winners of Pool 2 and were honoured to be presented the Sportsmanship Trophy for the third year in a row.

In addition, Bay players Joe Dinsdale, Kereopa McDonald, Flynn Kelly, Levi Hartley and Peni Lasaqa were named in the 2012 national Roller Mills tournament team.

In the grand final, Waikato defeated Auckland East 21-0.
