"Old Boys has been defunct since about 1997. Basically we thought we would get it going again this season and it has been bloody good," he said.
"At first we struggled for numbers but since Christmas we have had players coming out of our ears."
O'Connor said a lot of older cricket players in Taupo had returned to the game this year with Old Boys, which was good to see.
He said they were looking forward to the match against Geyser 1 today.
"We have played Geyser [Fossils] twice but we are yet to play Geyser 1, so we are really looking forward to it."
The seven-team competition enter into the semifinals in two weeks.
Geyser 1 are in danger of missing the semifinals if they don't produce some results in the remaining rounds.
In other games, the Bay of Plenty Indians play the Geyser Fossils at Boord Park and Taupo Wanderers play Central at Owen Delany Park.
The Indians will be high on confidence today after chasing down a huge target last weekend against Eastern Pirates.
Indians batsman Neeraj Kumar is their danger man. He scored 125 last weekend.
