It's down to the business end of the season for the Bay of Plenty district rugby league, the top four teams contesting tomorrow's semifinals.

The two top teams, Pikiao and Pacific, will clash in a rematch after the Tokoroa side smashed the boys from Mourea 50-16 last weekend.

It's been a tough couple of weeks for Pikiao. With coach Doug Unuwai recovering from surgery, the side has at times struggled to perform to their normally high standards.

Despite the drop in form the side will go into the match at Puketawhero Park as slight favourites.

They are a hard side to beat on Puketawhero Park and can call on the experience of guys like BJ Raroa, Te Kaiaotea Tahuriorangi and Percy King.

In the other semifinal Ngongotaha will travel to Taupo to take on the Phoenix at Hickling Park. Taupo Phoenix coach Hopa Henry told the Rotorua Daily Post the mood at training had picked up in the last couple of weeks. "The guys are looking forward to the finals. We are in it to win," he said.

However, they will take on a Ngongotaha side brimming with confidence after a hard-fought win against Forestlands last weekend.

Player-coach Dominic James said although the team had struggled at times during the season to field a full team, now they were in the finals anything could happen and he was confident they had the ability to go all the way to the grand final.

The winner of the Pikiao-Pacific clash will go directly to the grand final in two weeks, while the loser will play off against the winner of the Ngongotaha-Taupo match.

In the reserve grade semifinal Central take on Pikiao at Puketawhero Park and Mangakino host Pacific.

Meanwhile, all three of the junior grades' grand finals on Sunday will feature the age-group teams from the Pacific Sharks club.

In the under-13 division Pikiao Warriors go up against Pacific on field one at 11am, while in the under-15 division final it is Pikiao and Pacific again, the game to kick off at 12.30pm. However, in the under-17 final it will be the Sharks taking on the Phoenix at 2pm.

Semifinal draw

Reserve grade (kickoff 1pm): Central v Pikiao, Puketawhero Park; Mangakino v Pacific, Mangakino.

Premier (kickoff 2.45pm): Pikiao v Pacific, Puketawhero Park; Taupo Phoenix v Ngngotaha, Hickling Park.
