One of the ASB Premiership's real unknown quantities made their mark in an impressive opening day victory in Rotorua yesterday.

The newly named WaiBOP United, taking over from the luckless Waikato FC, opened their account with a 2-1 win over Canterbury United.

Dan Terris had Canterbury off to a good start but a goal in each half from Milos Nikolic and Maksim Manko saw WaiBOP triumph.

The result was a real boon for the new boys, considering Canterbury finished third last season, though it should be taken with a grain of salt since the visitors were missing talismanic captain Aaron Clapham.
