Another superb knock by Rotorua-based Bharat Popli and a return to local cricket for Black Cap quick bowler Trent Boult highlighted another round of the Baywide Williams Cup.

Rotorua-based Bay of Plenty Indians lost handsomely to Tauranga Boys' College on Saturday in their Williams Cup match at Smallbone Park.

However, star player Bharat Popli continued his good run of form for the Indians scoring 72.

The Indians made it to 207/9 but Tauranga Boys' College batsman Tom MacRury ended their hopes of victory, blasting an unbeaten 132.

A must-win game for Rotorua's Central Cricket Club did not go according to plan with East Bay United beating the side by seven wickets in Whakatane.

Led by Northern Knight bowler Graeme Aldridge, who took four wickets, the Eastern Bay team removed the visitors for 185.

Shayde Perham top scored for Central with 53 runs.

Black Cap quick Boult took the opportunity of a short break before the England tour to turn out for Element Cadets against Eves Realty Greerton on Saturday.

His pace was too much for Greerton.

Cadets, who entered the Williams Cup fourth round with an unbeaten record, batted first at the Tauranga Domain and were removed for what looked to be a modest 130 runs.

Boult top scored for his side with 26 with Morgan Bidois posting 20 runs.

Boult, opening the bowling, immediately had the Greerton top order in desperate trouble, dismissing the first three batsmen for ducks.

Bay of Plenty representative master blaster Brett Hampton showed some resistance to Boult, but when he was removed for 20, Greerton were in real trouble.

Boult continued his express deliveries and finished the match with eight wickets for 37 runs, as Greerton were dismissed for 93.

Te Puke also kept their place at the top of the table alongside Cadets during their close-fought match against Mount Maunganui at the Te Puke Domain.

The home side batted first and reached 183/7, with Mitch McCann top scoring with 80 runs.

The Mount Maunganui top score of 36, by new Bay skipper Peter Drysdale, told the tale of containment by the Te Puke bowling attack.

McCann backed up his performance with the bat by taking four wickets.

The final stages of the encounter turned into a cliffhanger with the Mount bowled out for 179, just four runs short of victory.
