After a strong first round in Rotorua senior reserve grade cricket, Central will be looking for a repeat performance when they take on Taupo College tomorrow.

The Rotorua side put on an impressive 234 runs in their 40-over innings despite a spirited effort from the John Paul College side.

Central's total was based around a well-hit 65 from Johnny Downs. The opening batsman isn't the prettiest to watch strokewise, but the power he puts behind the hit more than makes up for it. He was backed by his brother Richie Downs who contributed a solid 24.

JPC weren't helped by the new law which sees a team conceeding two runs for every wide they bowl.

The high school first XI never really challenged the total, being bowled out for 113.

The most effective bowler for Central was Ben Fraser who grabbed 4/28 off eight overs with Aaron Bennett also grabbing two wickets for just three run in just three overs.

Central go up against Taupo College who it is understood may have combined with Tauhara College.

After a solid first round encounter last weekend over Geyser City - Western Heights High School, go up against last year's champions Taupo Wanderers in Taupo.

Western Heights will need their batsmen to show the composure they had against Geyser City, when they chased down an impressive 203/6. The high school managed to score 207/8 in 39.5 overs.

Despite a great result last weekend, Bay of Plenty Indians won't be taking their encounter against JPC lightly.

The Indians posted 135 against a spirited Rotorua Boys' High School, who could only manage 116 in reply.

Rotorua Boys' High could be the team to look out for over the next couple of season. Coach Dave Richardson has several up-and-coming players. Richardson has helped a number of youngsters reach the higher level, noticeably former Black Cap captain Daniel Vettori.

Richardson's team go up against Geyser tomorrow. Geyser will be looking to exact revenge on the high school. They will be bitterly disappointed not to have won last week, especially after captain Karl McKnight constructed a beautiful 61.

All games start at 12.30pm.

Rotorua Senior Reserves Draw:

Central v Taupo College, Boord 1; Indians v JPC, Boord 2; Geyser v RBHS, Boord 3; Wanderers v WHHS, Kaimanawa Taupo.
