SQUASH
The Bay of Plenty's top young squash stars will vie for national honours tomorrow during the opening day of the New Zealand Junior Age Group Championships in Hamilton. In the boy's under-19 draw Central's Chris McEldowney get's top billing, ahead of Wellington's Reece Williams while Bay of Plenty's
Tini Moeke is enters the champs in third seed.
Moeke recently won the Whakatane Squash Club men's champion title and his skill and fitness have earmarked him for bigger things in the sport.
Brent Lewis from Northland rounds out the boys top four.
Waikato star Joelle King is top seed in the girl's under-19 event, having already won the New Zealand Junior Nationals title earlier this year.
But she could face a stern test from second seeded Aucklander Kerry Wickett, who is also just 16 years old.
Central's Jackie Laurenson and fourth seeded Te Waimatao Hope from Bay of Plenty are tipped to provide their peers with the possibility of an upset.
Other Bay player taking the court this weekend include under-17 player Aleisha Watene and under-11 player Scott Darroch (Bay of Plenty).
Play at the Hamilton Squash club gets underway at 12:30 tomorrow.
