Bay of Plenty Rugby Union has today been fined $6000 plus $1000 costs for breaching eligibility rules in the men's competition at the Northern Regional Sevens Tournament earlier this month.
The New Zealand Rugby panel heard that Bay of Plenty fielded an ineligible player at the Northern Regional Sevens Tournament,a breach of the New Zealand Rugby National and Regional Sevens Tournament Regulations.
The player was deemed a Non-New Zealand Eligible Player and had not received New Zealand Rugby approval to play.
Bay of Plenty admitted the breach and accepted the panel's decision.
Bay of Plenty must pay a fine of $3000 and $1000 costs, with the remaining $3000 suspended for two years. The fine will be donated to the New Zealand Rugby Foundation.
