Former Bay of Plenty/Thames Valley representative Tammy Clelland has reinforced how much the province will miss her for this week's interprovincial title defence in Ngaruawahia.
The combined side were due to open their campaign against Otago this afternoon without the in-form Taupo golfer -
a member of last year's winning side - who has made a stunning start to her American University golfing career.
Clelland led the University of Toledo Rockets to the inaugural Rocket Fall Classic title in record-breaking fashion last week.
She set school records on her way to taking medal honours with a 54-hole stroke total of two-under-par following rounds of 77, 68 and 69.
Clelland's was the lowest 54-hole score for the school and contributed to an incredible 20-stroke win. Her second round four under-par 68 was also a record low for the school.
Rockets coach Nicole Hollingsworth described Clelland's effort as "phenomenal" and part of a tremendous team effort.
Meanwhile, the pressure is on old heads Penny Newbrook, Jackie Shin and Susan Lines to add to Bay of Plenty/Thames Valley's impressive record at New Zealand's annual women's teams matchplay event.
The trio are the only survivors of last year's winning Bay combination and their playing experience will be needed to help settle new faces Zoe-Beth Brake and Kate Hodgson.
Kawerau's 13-year-old Brake will be making her debut while Hodgson gets a playing chance after being the reserve 12 months ago.
Bay of Plenty/Thames Valley have won the title 15 times. The last time was in Palmerston North when they beat Waikato/King Country.
Last year's runners-up are expected to be tough competition on their home turf but the course is also favoured by the title defenders.
Newbrook has a liking for the layout near the Waikato River where she won the Waikato Strokeplay earlier this year.
