"The Super Nines is a new competition they introduced this year.
"It took us a while to get the hang of it, in terms of the rules, but we are really happy with how we are going."
She joked they were accustomed to playing with only nine players anyway, when they have been short on players in the past.
Rangitauira said they made the final of the proper competition, the Midlands intercity competition, last year and would like to finish near the top again this year, when the competition gets underway on June 7.
"We are always chasing the top spots.
"We made the finals last year and got pipped in the final by [Otumoetai]."
She said they had developed a good rivalry with the Tauranga team over the years.
Rangitauira and her teammates expected a tough match against Counties Manukau today in the final of the pre-season competition.
"We played them last Saturday up in Counties and we managed to come out with a win.
"But they are very strong starters and will come out firing. On the other hand, we tend to finish stronger so it should be a good balance."
The Midlands intercity women's competition includes six teams this year.
The Rotorua Aces are the only Rotorua team in the top competition.
Rangitauira, who usually plays in defence, said they had good numbers this year with some young players coming through.
