Woman dies during car crash in Ohope

A car has crashed into a tree in Ohope, leaving the driver of the car dead at the scene.

The crash happened on Pohutukawa Ave about 1.30pm.

A St John spokesman said it appeared the woman in her 60s had suffered a seizure while driving.

A Rotorua Daily Post reporter at the scene said the car had flattened several letterboxes before crashing into a tree beside the footpath.

The St John spokesman said the driver was dead when paramedics arrived.

It appeared there were three people in the car at the time of the incident. The passengers walked away with minor injuries.
