“Even in the face of such loss, her strength, compassion, and ability to place others before herself truly reflects who she is at her core.
“Despite losing everything, she continues to show care and kindness towards others, which is both humbling and inspiring.”
She expects the experience, which she describes as a tragedy and a significant setback, will make her friend even more resilient and wise, in her own life and in her social work.
“It gives her lived understanding of loss, displacement, and vulnerability, knowledge that will help her walk alongside whānau who may face similar hardships in the future.”
Potter said wraparound support from the community had been heartwarming.
That support had come from whānau, friends, and the wider community, as well as local police, fire services and health providers. Special thanks was given to Pet Refuge.
“This collective aroha has lifted Fran and her whānau during an incredibly dark time. They would like to extend their deepest thanks and appreciation to everyone who has supported them throughout this time.”

Funds raised will go towards emergency housing, essentials, living costs, clothing, food, and pet supplies as Fran rebuilds her life.
Potter said every koha, no matter how small, was appreciated, as was people sharing the link to the fundraiser.
“This moment gently reminds us of the strength found in community, and the quiet power that unfolds when we wrap one another in care, compassion, and unity through times of hardship.
