A dynamic duo from Westbrook Primary School proved they knew their stuff when it came to local news.
Cassandra Kiff, 10, and Abby McTamney, 10, took out top spot in the 2014 Newsteam Year 5 and 6 A pool with 62 of 65 questions answered correctly.
Abby said they werenervous but were excited when they won.
"We had the opportunity to represent our school and we are really proud of what we achieved."
Cassandra said they had started preparing for the competition six weeks ago. "We were given old newspaper questions to practise and answered them under a time limit so we would know what the real competition would be like."
Cassandra and Abby said they had fun and wanted to compete in the Newsteam competition next year.
Running for more than two decades, the competition involves teams of two scouring sections of the Rotorua Daily Post in search for the answers to 65 questions.
This year local primary and intermediate schools entered 42 teams.
