Police are warning about bogus telephone calls being made which demand payment to the energy company Nova Energy, with the caller threatening to cut off power if payment is not made.
Police say anyone who receives such a call can verify whether it is genuine by calling Nova on 0800
668 236.
They said people should not make any payment until they had verified the call and were satisfied it was genuinely from Nova.
Police are investigating the calls, and would like to hear from anyone who believes they have been targeted.
Any information can be provided to Detective Craig Whitley at Wellington CIB on (04) 381 2000.
