The owners of a Rotorua preschool are thankful a crash that saw a car being shunted through its front fence didn't happen on a week day.

The crash happened on Clayton Rd about 4.05pm on Saturday when a ute allegedly shunted a car through the front fence of Mountain View Preschool.

The preschool is next to Western Heights Primary School.

A police spokesman said they got a number of reports a car was being driven dangerously on Clayton Rd.

The spokesman said the ute crashed into another vehicle which was then shunted into the fence. The people in both vehicles were not injured.

He said police and St John Ambulance responded and the man driving was taken to the police station.

Mountain View Preschool owner and manager Andrew Philipps said the fence and sign was destroyed and would need to be replaced.

He said he would hate to think what could have happened if the crash happened at the same time during the week as the area was always busy with preschool children being picked up and pupils leaving Western Heights Primary School.

"In general the area has been good to us. It's just bad luck it happened here but we were glad it was outside of hours."
