UPDATE: One killed in motorbike crash

Police are at the scene of a fatal motorbike accident on Golf Links Rd, Whakatane.

UPDATE: A section of Golf Links Road remains closed as the Serious Crash Unit investigates a fatal single-motorcycle crash in Whakatane.

The road is closed between Thornton Road and Wano Road.

One man has died as a result.

EARLIER: A person has been killed in a motorbike crash on Golf Links Rd, Whakatane.

Emergency services were called just before 8.30am this morning and police have confirmed one person has died.

A reporter near the crash said it was an emotional scene.

She said about a dozen people believed to be family or friends were already at the scene and emotions were running high.

People were still arriving, she said.

The crash site on Golf Links Rd was a 100km/h area.
