Crashes are blocking two separate Waikato highways this afternoon.

Part of State Highway 2 is closed at Maramarua after a two-truck crash was reported about 11.42am.

Police said two people were seriously injured and the Serious Crash Unit had been notified.

State Highway 2 is closed in both directions between Monument Rd and Okaeria Rd due to a serious crash. The road is expected to remain closed for some time so delay travel or be prepared to detour. ^KF pic.twitter.com/rJ4Ge3OVSK

NZ Transport Agency said the road was closed in both directions between Monument and Okaeria Rds.

“The road is expected to remain closed for some time so delay travel or be prepared to detour.”

A crash has also closed part of State Highway 1 at Oruanui, near Taupō.

SH1 ORUANUI, WAIKATO - CRASH - 1:00PM, WED 26 NOV

A crash is blocking SH1 in both directions near Oruanui Rd, the road is closed as a result. A detour is available via Tirohanga Rd, Poihipi Rd, Oruanui Rd, and Link Rd. ^KF pic.twitter.com/d4ZxgW0YNF

Police said they were notified of the two-vehicle crash about 11.50am and motorists were advised to avoid the area and expect delays.

Hato Hone St John said one person was taken to Taupo Hospital in a moderate condition.
