The Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust has donated $5000 to the Rotorua Daily Post Salvation Army Foodbank appeal, which will bring more smiles to the faces of people in need.

There's just one day left for people to donate to the appeal, run in conjunction with the Rotorua Weekender and The Hits 97.5FM.

The 2015 appeal has seen thousands of non-perishable food items, as well as cash donations, given to the Rotorua Salvation Army Foodbank to help continue its good work throughout the Christmas period and into 2016.

The trust's chairman, Grahame Hall, said trustees were unanimous in their decision to make the donation.

"It's great to see all of the wonderful work being put into the appeal that will very much help those people in the community who are less well off.

"If you look at the small team they have punching well above their weight you can see how much work goes into this.

They do an amazing service to the community, we should take our hats off to them," Mr Hall said.

Rotorua Salvation Army commanding officer Major Bill Millar said he was delighted by the trust's generosity.

"It takes a lot of tension out of the journey ahead and gives us enough to get started again next year.

"Judging by the all of the indicators 2016 is going to be equally, if not more, challenging than this year with more children in poverty and people becoming homeless.

"To have that money in the bank will help us so much," Mr Millar said.

Donations will be accepted until the end of tomorrow.
