The truck driver killed on State Highway 1 near Tokoroa on March 29 had a "huge heart" according to a friend who has set up a Givealittle page for the family.

Dwayne Adam John Maker, his fiancee Natalie and their three sons Adam, Izack and Jacob, had recently relocated to Taupō to start a new adventure , the friend writes.

Instead the family have had to farewell the man who was the sole income provider for the family.

The Givealittle page has been set up to help with funeral costs and ease the financial burden on the family.

Maker was described as a "loving [fiance], son, father, uncle and incredible friend" who put others before himself.
