A funeral for motorcyclist Luke Shaw, the third rider killed in a horror crash on State Highway 1, will be held tomorrow.

Shaw died alongside Lesley Brooks, 46, and Jacob “Pudding” Coady, 24, in Utiku, near Taihape, on Saturday. Another man, Tautini “Jeremy” Capper, was left fighting for his life.

Shaw’s funeral will be held in Hastings at 11am Saturday while Coady’s funeral will be at the Napier Sailing Club at 11am on Sunday.

Brooks' funeral was held at Beauchamp Funeral Chapel in Palmerston North at 2pm today.

Representatives of more than a dozen clubs, including the WestCoast Riders, Hikurangi Riders, Tangata Whenua Riders, Tongariro MC, the Maketu Gentleman’s Club, Riders Against Meth, and the Knights MC Sydney, sent regards.

Brooks was a member of the Manawatū Road Pirates SMC and Coady belonged to the Bay MC. The Herald understood Shaw was a friend of Coady’s.

Capper is the president of the Sulphur City Motor Cycle Club. Wishes of goodwill and a speedy recovery have come from social motorcycling clubs from around the country.

The Sulphur City MCC said: “We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, well wishes and words of support for our brother who is fighting hard in the [intensive care unit].

A mourner said of Brooks: “She really loved riding, would come into work with some awesome stories and was always smiling. Such a beautiful soul.”

Another said, “RIP beautiful Lesley. You are loved and adored by so many and will always have a special place in my heart.”

Friend Haydon Christian said of Brooks' death: “We lost something we weren’t willing to give up.”

He has set up a fundraising page to raise money for Brooks’ family. It has so far raised just over $10,000.

The president of the Horowhenua chapter of the Road Pirates SMC, Rob Miller, understood police were investigating whether the car involved in the crash was on the wrong side of the road.

“We overheard the cop telling somebody there it was a head-on,” Miller told the Herald.

Police told the Herald their investigations were still ongoing. Questioned about the possible cause, a police spokesman earlier said it was too early to comment.
