Rotorua's community has responded to the call to clean up a dumping spot, about 20m from the picturesque Puarenga Stream, transforming it in a little more than half a day.
The spot, which is next to the Froude St reserve and overlooks the Puarenga Stream, had been used to dumphouse-hold rubbish as well as green waste.
Keep Rotorua Beautiful chairman Craig Morley said the Puarenga Stream clean-up was one of the bigger projects over Keep Rotorua Beautiful week, which finishes tomorrow.
He said the area had been cleared of the dumped items, which included glass, used tyres, a fridge and a couch as well as corrugated iron sheets.
He said the community effort had exceeded his expectations.
"The landowners Pukeroa Oruawhata Trust organised two massive trucks and a bulldozer.
"We had Whakarewarewa School come down and help, as well as children from an early childhood kohanga, and people in the area came across to help.
"It was really good. Between 30 and 40 people came out. We had a whole crew from the Holiday Inn come along with coffee and refreshments. It was a really great community effort, and we got a really good result."
