Traffic backed up in Ngongotahā has frustrated motorists and caused delays this morning.

Motorists have taken to Facebook to express their frustration with some saying traffic was backed up all the way from the Ngongotahā roundabout to Leonard Rd, a distance of almost 8km.

Robyn Nelson told the

Rotorua Daily Post

it took her an hour to drive from Oturoa Rd to the roundabout, a drive which she said normally took 7-8 minutes.

"We were stopped most of the time and crawling some of the time," she said.

A police spokeswoman said the possible cause for the delays was a car transporter that had been reported to be driving at 5km/h in the area.

Police were looking for the vehicle, she said.

One Facebook commenter said her kids were late for school and the normally four minute drive to the roundabout had taken an hour.

Another said traffic had also been backed up from the roundabout to the State Highway 5 and Paradise Valley Rd intersection.
