YOUTH IN EXCELLENCE by ABIGAIL CASPARI in Rotorua
Tokoroa's Amie Sutherland is a busy student, constantly surprising her teachers by how much she manages to fit into each day.
The Year 11 Tokoroa High School student receives the Daily Post Youth in Excellence Award today.
Last year Amie was the top
all round Year 10 student and is well on her way to becoming the top all round Year 11 student.
She is a high academic achiever, sitting six subjects at level one of NCEA.
Amie is also a representative on the school's student council.
Earlier this year Amie took part in the Sheila Winn Shakespeare competition, receiving the prize for the best actress for her role as Lavinia in the play Titus Andronicus
The 15-year-old has been selected to attend the Shakespearean drama school in Palmerston North during the school holidays.
Amie enjoys all sports and this year has been the captain of the school's 1st XI soccer team.
She represented the school in the secondary schools' cross country event in Tauranga earlier this year.
Recently Amie won a $100 voucher in a shoe art competition in Taupo.
Her artwork was based on Tokoroa.
As well as her school commitments, Amie works part-time at a bookshop in Tokoroa.
When she leaves school Amie wants to go to university.
