Rotorua celebrity Temuera Morrison added a touch of authenticity to Western Heights Star Wars-themed ball last night.
Morrison, who played Jango Fett the bounty hunter in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, was asked to go to the ball by his niece Ngatai Bennett, who is a student atWestern Heights.
She thought it would be "really cool" for her uncle to go, given he had been in the movies that formed the theme for the night.
Ngatai told only a few people, as she wanted it to be a surprise for everyone on the night, but those she had told had been "really excited" about the television and movie star being in attendance, she said.
Morrison was to present awards for best dressed ballgoers and ball king and queen.
Ngatai was yesterday trying to convince her uncle to walk her and her sister Kahu into the ball.
Speaking to The Daily Post ahead of the big night, Morrison said he was looking forward to seeing all his relations dressed up.
"They look beautiful anyway, but it's a good chance for young people to look at their personal grooming ... and feel glamorous for a night."
The busy star, who has just returned from a Star Wars convention in Mexico City and the Green Lantern premiere in Los Angeles, said he was only able to be at the ball for a short time as his 6-year-old daughter was going back to Wellington today and he wanted to spend time with her also.
"I spend most of my time doing good things for good people."
Morrison scotched rumours he would don a Stormtrooper costume for the evening.
Ngatai said the ball venue looked amazing and featured a space ship at the entrance and a model R2D2 for photos.
While Ngatai wasn't wearing a Star Wars costume, she reckoned the "pretty out of it" dress she ordered from the United States fitted with the theme.
