Teen dead in hunting incident

A 15-year-old boy is dead after a hunting incident at Matata this morning.

Whakatane CIB are investigating the death but are treating it as a hunting incident, said Bay of Plenty Police District Command Centre's Sergeant Dennis Murphy.

The boy was one of three teenagers duck shooting at Greig Rd today.

Mr Murphy said around 8am today a firearm was discharged and one of the boys has been hit. He died at the scene.
