A pedestrian has died after they were struck by a vehicle near Pak’nSave Taupō this afternoon.

A police spokesperson confirmed the crash occurred “in the car park of a business premises” on Ruapehu St at 2.45pm.

“One person died at the scene.”

Police said the driver of the vehicle and two other pedestrians were transported to Taupō Hospital, with minor to moderate injuries.

“Police are making inquires to notify next of kin.”

The area was earlier cordoned off and motorists were asked to stay away while the Serious Crash Unit examined the scene. The road has now reopened.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson earlier said they were notified of the incident on Ruapehu St at 2.32pm.

“We responded with two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an operations manager,” the spokesperson told the Waikato Herald.

“One patient has been transported to Taupō Hospital in a minor condition.

“However, you need to speak with police for more information on this incident.”

When asked about the incident a Fire and Emergency spokesperson told the Waikato Herald to contact police.

Greenlea Rescue Helicopter has been contacted for comment.
