Rotorua woman Espie Ford braved the cold weather yesterday to try her luck at becoming the new Kiwi voice of TomTom GPS.
TomTom is the world's leading provider of location and navigation solutions and is well known for its comical and celebrity voices available for download on all of its GPS units.
Along with The Edge radio station, TomTom is on a nationwide search to find the new Kiwi voice of New Zealand and join the likes of Snoop Dogg, Homer Simpson and Mr T.
The winner will also win a Suzuki Swift RS, which The Edge roadrunners will be driving around the country in a bid to find the next TomTom GPS superstar.
Yesterday, they were in Rotorua at the City Focus trying to nab some local talent.
Miss Ford, 24, said she was on her way home when she saw The Edge roadrunners set up at City Focus.
"It looked like fun," she said.
The 24-year-old said it would be cool to win the car and having a Kiwi voice for TomTom's GPS systems was a great idea.
Local Edge roadrunner Ricky Lee, who was at City Focus with The Edge's roadtrip roadrunners Marty Hehewerth and Charene Clarke, said more than 100 people had been through.
"It's just been going wild," she said.
To enter the competition, contestants had to read from a script and use the words, left, right and TomTom at least once.
There were several different script categories including best everyday Kiwi-ism, best celebrity impression, best backseat driver and best kids' voice.
Following the road trip, five finalists will be selected and online public voting, which begins next Monday, will help choose the winner. The winner will be announced on November 1.
Their winning voice recording will be available for download at Christmas for TomTom users worldwide.
