One of the best charity events in Rotorua is back and has announced a bumper prize as part of its auction.

The Ronald McDonald Family Retreat Supper Club event will be held on February 28 next year.

One of the key sponsors, Harvey World Travel, has announced it will be donating a 10-night trip to Tahiti for two people valued at $15,000 as part of the auction.

Supper Club involves 36 tables of eight people dining at a variety of locations, cafes, restaurants and hotels around the city.

Those who have bought a table gather at the Novotel Rotorua at 5.30pm and enjoy drinks and nibbles before an auction is held.

After that, the 36 tables are drawn out of a hat and matched with sponsoring venues where they all go to enjoy dinner.

Last year the event raised $78,000.

Each year the money goes back into the running costs of the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat, based on the shores of Lake Ngongotaha. The retreat provides a holiday spot for sick children to come to Rotorua with their families.

Harvey World Travel owner Deborah Kay said she was thrilled to put up a travel prize for the fourth year in a row.

The highest bidder will spend two nights in Papeete before enjoying seven nights sailing around the Tahitian Islands on a five-star yacht with meals included. They will spend another night in Papeete before flying home. All flights are included.

Mrs Kay said it was the type of cause she could not help but support.

"This charity is the best one. Sick children, it's just not right. It's great they can have such a beautiful time before they pass or it helps them get better."

Supper Club organiser and retreat operating committee chairman Rob Parry, who owns the McDonalds franchises in Rotorua, said the event had already sold about 28 tables.

"We haven't even done a call to action yet so if you want a table you'd better get in quick."

Tickets are $100 and can be organised by emailing Mr Parry's wife and fellow organiser, Linley Parry, at linleyparry@xtra.co.nz.

Mr Parry said early next year they would call for items to be donated for the auction, but anyone was welcome to touch base now.
