The Chiefs beat the Highlanders 21-19 at Waikato Stadium tonight, despite missing Ben Afeaki, Brodie Retallick, Sam Cane, Kane Thompson, Augustine Pulu and many more.

The Highlanders gave away a 16-7 halftime lead, the Chiefs coming back with two more tries to Liam Messam and Charlie Ngatai.

The Chiefs are now two from two this Super Rugby season, having beaten the Crusaders at AMI Stadium last week.

They have a bye next week before hosting the Stormers on March 14.

Chiefs 21 (T. Nanai-Williams, L. Messam, C. Ngatai tries; A. Cruden 3 cons)
Highlanders 19 (J. Hardie try; L. Sopoaga con, 4 pens)
