Police believe they know the identity of the man found dead in a stream yesterday, but no details will be released until the identity is formally confirmed and his family have been notified.

A post mortem examination is taking place this morning to establish cause of death.

In the meantime police are completing a search of the stream where he was found this morning and the walkway behind Ruth St remains closed.

Until this work is complete, police will not speculate on the circumstances of the death, and will not be making any additional comment.

If anyone has any information that might assist police they are asked to contact Rotorua police on (07) 348 0099.
