State Highway 1 has reopened south of Tokoroa after a crash which killed two people earlier this evening.
The serious crash, in which three others were injured, occurred near Ohakuri, south of Tokoroa, forcing the closure of SH1 around 6pm.
A police spokesperson said the road is reopened to thepublic but speed restrictions remain in place.
"Police would also like to thank members of the public who stopped and assisted at the scene in the immediate aftermath of the crash," the spokesperson said.
"Some people provided blankets and clothing to assist victims at the scene. If this was you and you would like the items back please contact Taupo police."
