Days don't get much better for Daniel Pearce - the All Blacks reigning victorious in the Rugby World Cup final and a baby daughter born at half time, meaning he didn't miss any of the game.

The joke had been that the Rotorua man's new arrival would decide to make her entrance on the day of the final and more than a week overdue, that's what happened this morning.

But timing is everything and after contractions started at 1am Mr Pearce and partner Andrea Tucker managed to watch the haka at home before heading to hospital.

As Miss Tucker was concentrating on bringing wee Isla Jamie Pearce into the world, Mr Pearce was juggling keeping an eye on the rugby on the cellphone while holding her hand as support.

"A lot of my mates had been telling me she'd come during the final. Leaving home I was panicking that my mates would be right."

"I was holding [my partner's] hand and eyes on the screen ... every time she had a contraction I'd check on her then back to the rugby."

Mr Pearce said after Isla's arrival they contemplated a name with significance for her timely arrival - including calling her Carter - but they'd already set their heart on her name.

"It was pretty good, I didn't miss an of the rugby. She was born at half time, I chopped the cord and then was straight back into watching."

Mr Pearce admits his partner knew he'd probably have been "a little bit grumpy" had he missed the whole game, but in the end the timing worked out perfectly.

"It will be a pretty good story over a few beers when she is a bit older."

Mr Pearce said between the All Black win and his new daughter, it was pretty much the perfect day.
