The tournament was held at the Rotorua Commercial Travellers Club.

A group of snooker sharp shooters were in action in Rotorua at the weekend.

The inaugural LJ Hooker Masters Snooker competition, held at the Rotorua Commercial Traveller's Club, attracted 48 competitors, including two of New Zealand's highest ranked masters (over 40) players in Joe Hunn, of Hastings, and Alan Ball, of Tauranga.

New Zealand Masters Association president Rob Elvin said the association had existed for 25 years.

"It is based on the concepts of inclusiveness, camaraderie and fair play. Just as in golf, each player is handicapped to their ability. Everyone has an equal chance to win, but with competition fierce, victory will be well deserved," Elvin says.

"We have 450 members, from Kaitaia to Christchurch, including many female players who at one time may have been support crew, but now have grown to love the game and the heat of competition."
