Works to rebuild SH30A Amohau St in Rotorua have been postponed until next week due to a wet weather forecast.

Rain was forecast for the city from today until Saturday, with a slight reprieve on Friday.

NZ Transport Agency said while the main works have been postponed, investigations to identify any potential ground issues that need to be addressed would take place as planned tonight with the two westbound lanes closed from 8pm to 5am.

“All four lanes would be open overnight for the remainder of the week,” a spokesperson said.

“Rebuild work would begin next week, weather permitting, with the two eastbound lanes closed Sunday to Thursday (open Friday and Saturday nights).”

NZTA said the road would be open during the day under a temporary speed limit.

“Crews would be setting up and packing down an hour either side of the closure times.

“Vehicles would still be able to travel through, but there may be delays.”

The work was expected to continue until April.
