Summer, seafood and celebration is a winning combination for the foodie festival Rotorua's been missing.

That's what Te Kotahitanga O Te Arawa Waka Fisheries Trust believes, which is why members are organising the inaugural Summer Seafood Festival for the city.

The festival is being held at the Village Green on January 30 from 11am to 4pm. There will be various seafood stalls, a bar with craft beers and wine and local music throughout the day.

We are aiming to create a festival that puts all the best seafood in one place

Shane Heremaia, General manager, Te Kotahitanga O Te Arawa Waka Fisheries Trust

The trust's general manager, Shane Heremaia, said people could expect to have a relaxing day filled with "great food, great drinks and great company".

"It's all about the fantastic seafood and providing a space where people can enjoy some of the best things in life.

"There has been a lot of great things happening in Rotorua and we thought this festival would fit in well," he said.

"There are so many people in our city who have a real love for good seafood so we are aiming to create a festival that puts all the best seafood in one place."

Mr Heremaia said the general and earlybird tickets were reasonably priced so everybody in the community had the chance to go along.

"Of course we need to make the event sustainable which meant some kind of charge would apply but we hope it is reasonable enough that everybody feels like they can come along."

He said the VIP tickets were great value and a good Christmas present for those hard-to-buy-for family members.

"As part of the VIP tickets you get festival admission, all-day stage entertainment, a special gift pack, access to all stalls and bar and exclusive access to the VIP marquee including covered shelter, VIP seating, all-day hors d'oeuvres, five free beverage tickets, one free seafood meal ticket, table service and exclusive bar and toilet facilities."

Mr Heremaia said the trust hoped to see the festival become an annual event.
