For the fourth year running staff from Crown Research Institute Scion are helping Rotorua Salvation Army fill its pantry.

Scion's annual Sala St raffle has been launched with staff from Scion, Department of Conservation, Interpine Group Ltd and Timberlands Ltd, all donating a can for a ticket in the raffle.

Local businesses Adventure Rooms, Volcanic Air, Atticus Finch, Sequoia Eatery, Whakarewarewa, Skyline Rotorua, Lakeland Queen, The Buried Village, McLeods Booksellers, Holiday Inn Chapmans Restaurant and Bar and Redwoods Treewalk have all donated prizes for the raffle.

Scion information and data services advisor Sierra Delacroix said it was the continued generosity of staff that allowed the annual donation to the Salvation Army through the Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal.

"Staff of the four companies bring in what they can so we are very happy with whatever we collect," she said.

"We're also very happy to be helping our community, and especially the vulnerable people in our community, at Christmas. We know it's tough for a lot of families so being able to help the Salvation Army help them is a good thing."

In 2015 Scion staff collected 1200 food items worth more than $2000 for the Salvation Army. Last year they got to 800 and this year, they're aiming for the most ever.
