No one knew exactly what to expect last night.
It was the first test match for the Black Ferns since June last year, while Australia had not taken the field in an international since 2010.
It took 10 minutes for the first points to be scored when the Wallaroos kicked a penalty about 30m out.
New Zealand went up the other end a few minutes later and kicked a penalty of their own to make it 3-3.
The game sparked into life when prop Oneata Schwalger was sent to the sin bin for Australia. New Zealand sniffed their first real chance of a try, camping themselves in Australia's 22m.
After a few pick and goes from the forwards, the New Zealand backs spread the ball left and centre Amiria Rule went in to score.
The Black Ferns kicked another penalty to push the lead out to 11-3 at halftime.
After the break it again took the Black Ferns a while to get going before they cracked the defence.
A chase to a long kick put Australia under huge pressure. New Zealand came away with the ball and spun it right, out numbering the Wallaroos.
Rawinia Everitt jogged the ball in to score New Zealand's second try.
Speedster Winiata Selica went in for New Zealand a few minutes later, ducking under a tackle close to the line.
She sealed the win with that try making sure New Zealand continued their perfect record (12 wins and no losses) against Australia.
To their credit, Australia did not give in.
They defended well in their own half and it took a while before New Zealand could break them down again.
But Honey Hireme was simply too big and strong and went over in the corner.
Huriana Manuel then got in on the act, scoring another try for her country as New Zealand won the match 38-3.
The Black Ferns will visit Rotorua Girls' High School today to hold a free rugby clinic for young girls.
Girls aged 11 to 18 can attend for free from 11am to 1pm.
