Disney fans will be in for an outdoor treat at the Rotorua Daily Post Winter Feature Film night.

The popular Disney movie Frozen, which tells the tale of a fearless princess who sets off on an epic journey to find her sister and befriends a rugged mountain man, his pet reindeer and a comical snowman on the way, will be screened on the Village Green tomorrow night.

The movie night is part of The Hits Fire and Ice festival, which runs until July 27.

The free event will also feature live entertainment, competitions and plenty of prizes. Events and Venues major events co-ordinator Jason Cameron said it was a fantastic way to spend a winter night.

"It's a chance to see a Disney box office sensation on the big screen in the picturesque setting of the Village Green," he said.

"It's going to be a great night for the kids and is perfect for families." Mr Cameron encouraged people to wear warm clothes and bring a blanket, foldable chairs or a tarpaulin to sit on.

The finalists of the Rotorua's Coolest Winter Hot Spot Competition will have their videos and pictures screened at the event, with the winning entrant awarded an Ultimate Family Season Pass from Mt Ruapehu and a weekend for four at The Park Hotel Ruapehu worth more than $2500.

Those keen to show off their talents could also win tickets to Disney On Ice: Treasure Trove, by singing their favourite Frozen song in a Frozen Idol competition, Mr Cameron said.

He advised people to get to the Village Green early, about 5pm, so they can set up and get a nearby car park. The event starts at 5pm, with the film starting at 6pm.

Mr Cameron said if it rained heavily tomorrow, an announcement would be made on the festival's Facebook page or on The Hits at midday as to whether the event was postponed until Saturday.
