The Blue Baths Comedy Cabaret has introduced another flavour to its already stellar line-up, with the sound of Queen.
The summer season of Comedy Cabaret is in its final couple of weeks. Spanning the decades and offering clever and entertaining comic routines, illusions and brilliant trickery, mixed with jazz standards, classic show tunes and pop and disco hits - it now also features the legendary Bohemian Rhapsody.
This latest addition was introduced mid-season after the licensing rights to perform the song were negotiated with Queen's management team.
Blue Baths managing director Jo Romanes said the Queen favourite was the only one initially declined.
"It's a big song, which includes five-part harmonies, so we think our application was rejected because it's an extremely difficult song to perform well."
After writing an appeal, which was sent off to Switzerland, the cast received confirmation on opening night they could at last go ahead with it.
Mrs Romanes said because so many hours had been spent rehearsing the song, the decision was made to add it back in, albeit belatedly.
"The cast started rehearsing it again and the song debuted on Thursday last week - much to the delight of the audience. It's such a fantastic song, being able to add it back into the line-up really adds another dimension to the show.
"We think this rock n' roll element is the absolute icing on the cake, bringing that little bit of something special and satisfying everyone's differing tastes. It is a real show-stopper."
The Comedy Cabaret runs until February 15. General admission is from $45 per person, or $25 for under 25s and $35 for over-65s. Booking can be made online at www.bluebaths.co.nz or inquiries to (07) 350 2119.
