Rotorua's Julia Edward and rowing partner Sophie MacKenzie are through to the semifinals at the world rowing championships in Amsterdam.
The world championships got under way overnight on Sunday (NZT) in the Netherlands.
New women's lightweight double scull partners Edward and MacKenzie won their heat to secure a place in
the semifinal, being held late on Thursday night (NZT).
Edward has been in good form this year in the lightweight single sculls event. She won two world cup gold medals before teaming up with MacKenzie for the lightweight double sculls and Olympic event. Meanwhile, MacKenzie won gold at the world under-23 champs in Italy this year. The pair won their heat in a time of 6min 52.31sec.
