Rotorua is packed with great places to eat and drink, and the brand new Eat Streat development is the jewel in the city's crown.

The $2 million upgrade is not fully completed with the roof still to be finished along with individual retractable awnings covering dining areas for the various cafes and bars.

There's a wide range of restaurants on the site which can only lead to confusion - where you are going to stop and eat?

There's European flair at Nuvolari Italian, spicy Thai food at Wild rice, contemporary cuisine at Solace Cafe and Restaurant and Ambrosia Restaurant and Bar or southern US style food at Jazzed Bar and Eatery.

If that's not your style why not try Indian Star Tandoori Restaurant or get some fine New Zealand meat at Mac's Steaks.

For Mediterranean tastes head to Cafe Ephesus or for a really tasty beer visit Brew Craft Beer Pub.

If you want to have a few drinks before your meal go to Scotty's Bar or pick up a bottle of wine at Arawa Fine Wines.

You can also check out the real estate market at Harcourts, get a funky new "do" at Blezard Hair and Beauty or grab an ice cream from iconic Rotorua store Lady Jane's Ice Cream Parlour.

The street has been buzzing this summer after it was re-opened on December 20 and is a very popular spot.

Eat Streat should be completed by March with geothermal underground heating installed ready for winter.

The Rotorua Daily Post Essential 50 lists the city's must-see, must-do and must-try activities and experiences thanks to reader nominations. We'll be highlighting one every day during summer.
