To complete the work efficiently, the southbound (Rotorua-bound) lane of SH36 will be closed from 9am on Mondays until 2.30pm on Fridays, reopening for weekends, NZTA says in its latest update.
During closures, southbound traffic will be detoured via Wikaraka Rd and Taui Rd. Access to side roads –including Taui, Hall and Hood – will be restricted to left-in/left-out only, though residents and businesses will retain access under the guidance of traffic crews.
Northbound traffic can continue using SH36 under temporary speed limits and lane shifts. Motorists should expect delays, and school traffic is encouraged to use the SH36/SH5 roundabout to turn around.
NZTA said the one-way closure enables crews to complete the rebuild faster while improving safety for workers and road users.
