A former Rotorua Boys' High School student has been named in the All Black Sevens squad for the North American leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Bay of Plenty's Ngarohi McGarvey-Black is the only new cap in the 13-man squad.

The 21-year-old was brought into the squad after a strong showing for Bay of Plenty at the Bayleys National Sevens in Rotorua last month and coach Clark Laidlaw said he had continued to impress.

"Ngarohi has been on the radar since he was at Rotorua Boys'. I saw him for the first time at regionals last year and he turned heads that day and he stood out for Bay of Plenty at Nationals.

"We believe he can play anywhere in the backline which gives us some flexibility in the squad and it will be a great experience for him to be in the group for the next two weeks," Laidlaw said.

The next two stops on the world sevens circuit is the HSBC USA tournament in Las Vegas on March 2-4 and the Canada Sevens in Vancouver from March 10-11.
