Entries for this year's 50th Rotorua Marathon have crept up to almost twice the 2013 number.
As of yesterday there were 2581 people entered into the flagship 42.2km event with 3842 overall entries. As well as the marathon on May 3 there will also be a half marathon, quarter marathon
and 5.5km race. There were 1400 marathon finishers at the 2013 event and 4000 overall.
Event Promotions' marketing manager Charlotte Pearson said these entries had been received before the usual peak entry season.
"It's unusual to get this many now," she said.
"Now is when training programmes are kicking in, the marathon clinic has started and people are into their training." She said there had been 70 entries from Australia, 1300 from Auckland and 570 from the Bay of Plenty.
