Rotorua locals will face the clippers tomorrow for a worthy cause.

Shave for a Cure raises funds for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand, and 17 Farmers stores around the country are running events, including in Rotorua from noon to 1.30pm tomorrow.

Paul Fairnington, who works at Farmers and is on the "Shave Committee" said staff have been fundraising for a fortnight, holding a Wacky Hair Day to boost donations and encouraging people to register for the shave.

This is the second year the shave has run at the Rotorua store. Last year it raised $5211 towards the New Zealand total of $178,958.

Farmers' chief financial officer Michael Power said Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand was a charity close to many of the company's 4000 staff.

"It is something our stores put huge effort into supporting each year," he said.

"Six New Zealanders are diagnosed with a blood cancer every day. A number of our staff have personally been affected, and many of them take up the challenge to shave their heads to show solidarity."

The money helps Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand pay for patient support, research, information and advocacy. The organisation gets no government funding.

Those who don't want to shave their heads can still show their support by donating to the cause.
