One person has been seriously injured in a crash that has brought down power lines near Rotorua.

A police spokeswoman said a vehicle crashed into a power pole on Kapukapu Rd, Hamurana, at about 11.25am and live wires had come down on the road and the vehicle.

“One person has been seriously injured. Traffic management is in place, and motorists are advised to expect delays in the area,” an updated police statement said.

Unison had been notified.

Earlier, a Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said one person had been trapped.

Two trucks and a support vehicle were at the scene.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said one ambulance and one rapid response unit were sent to the crash and one person was taken to Rotorua Hospital in a serious condition.

The Unison website said 41 customers were without power in the area after an initial 116 had lost connection.
