Looking smart and enjoying the benefits of cycling is what a special tweed-themed bike ride is all about.

The Great Rotorua Tweed Ride is being held on Sundayat 2pm starting at the Rotorua Village Green.

There will be prizes for best-dressed. Tickets cost $5, which includes refreshments post-ride.

Rotorua Lakes Council's sustainable journeys co-ordinator Rachel Doelman says the success of last year's inaugural Tweed Ride prompted them to turn it into an annual event.

She says the Tweed Ride is about dressing up in tweed and celebrating cycling by going for short social rides around Rotorua's urban cycleway network.

"We held the event last year as a fun way to encourage people of all ages and cycling ability to get on their bikes and experience what CyWays has to offer.

"What's clear from last year is that people really enjoyed themselves, so it made sense to celebrate the event annually."

Rachel says the tweed ride will be an up to 8km easy ride which will suit all cyclists, including children who need to be supervised on the journey, and is a great family activity.
