The head girl of Western Heights High School, Kate Wright, is this week's Daily Post Rising Star for her leadership qualities and her academic achievements.
The peer support leader and Rotorua District youth councillor scored high marks at NCEA Level 1, Level 2 and Cambridge International Exams.
Kate is studying afull NCEA Level 3 programme and recently received a Top Academic Achiever Award at her school's assembly.
Kate is working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award and has participated in two Spirit of
Adventure Voyages.
She willingly contributes
towards assisting in community events, appeals and fundraisers and has attended the Youth Declaration Conference at the
University of Auckland.
She is a member of the National Youth Health Network and National Decision Makers
Network.
"Kate is serious about her responsibilities, she gets on well with people of all ages and is considerate and thoughtful of others," principal Violet Pelham-Waerea said.
Kate intends to study law and science at Auckland University next year.
