Claudia Hyde is an outstanding role model to the students of John Paul College - and this week's Rising Star.
The Year 13 student is deputy head girl at the school and has been described as being well organised, hardworking, dedicated, motivated and friendly.
She was selected as deputy head girl after
being recognised for her ability to mix well with the other students and lead by example.
During her time at the school she has been captain of the 1st XI girls hockey team two years in a row
The 17-year-old has also been rowing for the past four years.
She won gold in club double and silver in quad at the New Zealand club championships in February.
Claudia also won gold in single at the New Zealand Secondary School championships in 2010.
In the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 rowing seasons she was named Rotorua Rowing Club female rower of the season and was the Bay of Plenty Rowing Dissociation Female Rower of the Year for 2010/2011.
John Paul College named her Sportswoman of the year for 2010.
Claudia also achieves well academically, gaining NCEA Level 1 and 2 with merit.
Her goals include getting into the New Zealand Rowing High Performance System when she finishes school and studying sport science at Auckland or Otago University.
Principal Patrick Walsh said Claudia was an outstanding young woman.
"She is modest, hardworking and gives of her best. Her success in rowing is due to her discipline and high expectations."
